Overview
Oak Apple Tree Tent is a lambswool-lined pod of cosiness, sitting snug in the woods of a family farm in the peaceful setting of the Wye valley. The pod, with two single beds shaped round the inside walls and a wood burner in the middle, is just your snug bedroom. In the morning you can lounge out on the high deck and listen to the birds and the breeze, before heading over to the rest of your “suite”. This consists of two cabins, one containing the gas hobs and dining area, the other a compost loo and hot shower.
There’s also a firepit you can sit by in the evening, or even cook on if you’re indulging your inner woodsman. The whole camp is a private oasis of peace in the woods, where you can unwind in the hot tub and let modern life drift away on the wind.
For over 20 years, Joe and Emily have been taking a regenerative and rewilding approach to managing their meadows and woodland, which covers 180 acres. They’ve let nature take its own path alongside managed regenerative areas of species and rich hay meadows, has led to the site gaining local Wildlife Site Status (LWS). If you’re interested, then take a tour around the farm with Joe, who’s been working in farming and wildlife conservation for 30 years.

It was amazing. Loved every minute. Love the total privacy of this place. All you can hear are birds & sheep! It has all you need and more. The pod is so cosy and comfortable, the kitchen is so well equipped, clean and spacious. The rain shower is just wonderful and again the whole area feels super clean and had lovely little touches. The veranda is a lovely touch. The hot tub was the icing on the cake.

We had an absolutely blissful stay at Oak Apple Tree Tent. Joe and Emily have clearly put a lot of thought into the site and it really shows in the attention to detail and luxury feel whilst still being immersed in nature. The hot tub was a particular highlight!
19/07/2024Jess
Absolutely idyllic private space in the heart of Monmouth, the facilities are amazing and eco friendly and the view has been unrivalled, both me and my partner used it as a getaway for me to work on an album and her to work on a phd, it’s a shame I couldn’t live there otherwise we’d have everything done! Joe couldn’t have been more helpful and Emily and her family sound lovely.

We had such a special stay at Oak Apple Tree Tent. The views, the sunsets, the hot tub, the campfire cooking, the cosy cabin, the comfy sleeping pod. It was magical! A real wild experience. We went out canoeing during the morning which was a great way to explore the beautiful river wye. Then came back to camp and hung out in the hammock, reading and listening to the birds, then soaking in the tub before a BBQ feast followed by toasted marshmallows and star gazing (the dark starry skys were spectacular!). We can't wait to go back and would definitely recommend this special place!

It was really lovely despite the weather not being too kind. Such a peaceful place with incredible birdsong and beautiful bluebells woods and views. The cabin was spacious and comfortable, and very well equipped. Great shower! Joe and Emily were sweet and thoughtful, and the dogs Kip and Ted were gorgeous!

What a magical place. I stayed with my daughter for 2 nights and we had some once-in-a-lifetime experiences! The set-up is very peaceful, comfortable and well-appointed- you feel right out in the wilds but with all the amenities you could wish for, including a raised deck and a wood-fired hot-tub. The dawn chorus is extraordinary- you can hear it from the comfort of the beds in the cute round sleeping pod. For us, what made our stay truly unforgettable was a guided walk with Joe around his beautifully managed land. He has a wealth of knowledge about wildlife and biodiversity, and explains his practices in relatable terms. As well as the well-loved farm animals including lambs and baby calves, we saw smooth newts, a barn owl, a cuckoo, fallow deer and, amazingly, a white stag. So a special stay became mythical. Emily and Joe and very friendly and approachable hosts, and it felt like a real privilege to stay on their farm.

We had a wonderful break at Oak Apple Tree Tent. The site was beautifully constructed and had everything we needed. We enjoyed cooking on the fire and soaking in the hot tub, breakfast on the deck and sleeping in the cosy pod. The best thing was the solitude and space, there was no need to leave the site at all with acres of woodland and farmland to explore. The skies were huge and gave us stunning sunsets, dramatic clouds and clear starry nights.
24/08/2023Jo
Our stay at Oak apple Tree Tent was absolutely magical. Emily and Joe were lovely and they’ve truly made a very special place to stay on their gorgeous farm. Staying in the tree tent was an amazing experience, surrounded by gorgeous trees and land, topped with star gazing through the tree tents window in the ceiling. The location was perfect, the Scandinavian hot tub bath was the best and we left feeling renewed and at one with nature. Thank you so much - we would be back in a heartbeat!

It was amazing. Joe snd emily have carefully thought of everything and hence it was really well kitted out and beautiful. It was so peaceful and the birdsong was incredible. We loved the sleeping pod.. it’s like a tardis.. seemed bigger inside than what you see outside. Even the toilet was ok! We’d definitely go again and recommend to anyone
29/04/2022Amanda

20/08/2021Suzy
The perfect secluded staycation, such a beautiful place and lovely hosts. You couldn’t ask for anymore. Lovely woods to explore down to the stream also.
02/08/2021Emma
WOW - fabulous from first sight. Sat nav and then very clear directions took us to Lower Gockett Farm owned by the delightful Emily and Joe, who left a most welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, eggs and cider. We chose the hottest days of the year so far to visit and were thrilled to glimpse the pod though the trees as we parked up. We walked over a field, through a gate and found the area with the sleeping pod, campfire, hammock, decking, outside seating and 2 Eco friendly units - one for cooking/dining and another as a bathroom. It was honestly better than expected - we don't think the photos do it justice. This was home for the next 3 days and nights. It felt like the middle of nowhere - bliss. Nature at it's finest - we saw squirrels, deer, bats and butterflies, not to mention many birds. The farmland is extensive and ideal for walks through the woods - approx 2 miles and shady in the sunshine. Also walking out of the farm, up the hill and then left takes in a spectacular 2mile circular walk to Pen-Y-Fan - perfect to see the sunset - or rise! Everything had been thought of by the hosts - thoroughly recommend this 'staycation'.

We had the most wonderful getaway at the Oak Apple Tree Tent. Despite the moody weather, the tent and facilities made us feel instantly at home and allowed us to really enjoy the beautiful views whilst feeling cosy and comfortable either in the hammock or by the fire. Our hosts have been wonderfully welcoming, sharing insight about the local trails and walking routes, and the fresh food hamper was a nice touch. But most of all we loved meeting the 3 friendly and fun farm dogs that were loyally guarding the main house entrance. We loved this place and we are already thinking of coming back again in the cold weather as the Wye Valley is equally charming in winter.
05/07/2021Alina
Wow! Where do I start! This is just an amazing place. We had the most wonderful stay here. A completely private haven of bliss. Oak Apple really exceeded our expectations. The pod was perfect, warm and comfortable, with lovely little personal touches. The kitchen has everything you need and more. The shower was a wonderful addition. The outdoor fire pit and seating just makes a relaxing evening so special. And then the veranda.. well totally wow! Without spoiling others surprise…I’ll just say this accommodation has been so well designed and thought about. The owners really have done a fantastic job. All you can hear are sheep & birds, and the views are stunning. Surrounding area is just beautiful. So much to do. Lovely places to visit/eat/drink. I could honestly write a book! Emily & Jo are such welcoming and helpful hosts. Their farmyard with their friendly dogs and cute roaming chickens made a nice welcome. I have to say that although the tree house is no longer in a tree as such, this really did not detract at all from the whole experience. It’s actually situated perfectly.
17/06/2021Jackie
It was wonderful, very secluded and peaceful. Felt very relaxed.
13/06/2021Neil
Our stay was amazing. Relaxing and fun!
06/06/2021Zoe
Fabulous stay in the OATT enhanced by possibly the best 3 weather days of the year to date! It was wonderful being in the midst of nature with the birds, sheep and other wild life choruses. Definitely sophisticated camping with the kitchen and shower/loo block. Spacious area for living and exploring. Turned off the phones and relaxed. The tent was comfortable and we stargazed from our beds. A true adventure.
31/05/2021Eve
We arrived a week ago in pretty back rain and wind but the tree tent, kitchen and site was very inviting. Joe checked we had everything we needed and was friendly and offered support if we needed anything.
03/05/2021Rachel
Oak Apple Tree Tent is a magical place to stay. Peaceful, beautiful and carefully thought out. Hosts were lovely and couldn't be more helpful.
30/04/2021Keri
We had a fantastic time at the Oak Apple Tree Tent. Joe was very welcoming and the place itself was stunning. We enjoyed relaxing by the fire and walking in the woods. The kitchen space was well stocked and they had left us bread, eggs and milk which was a lovely addition. Sleeping in the pod was very special, looking out the Perspex roof is amazing and it's very cosy with all the cushions and blankets.
28/10/2019Joel
we stayed for two nights in late october. Oak Apple Tree Tent was everything we expected and more. Set in beautiful woodland with great views next to a working farm, it felt like a proper escape from busy urban life. The tent pod is fully suspended in the trees and ios super cosy with a small woodburner. We stayed on a very wet weekend and there were no issues with leakage at all. The hosts were super helpful and hospitable, even provided us with an extra heater for the kitchen/lounge area. Loads of walking in the area and some lovely pubs too.
25/10/2019Nick
Lovely accommodation in a fantastic location far away from everything. Great facilities, beautifully crafted and unexpectedly cosey.
11/10/2019Simon
Relaxing, peaceful, splendid isolation,
23/09/2019Juls
We had a lovely stay at the Oak Apple Tree Tent. We found the hanging tent a nice difference and the beds warm. It was lovely to be able to look up at the sky through the roof in the mornings. We enjoyed staying in the area and just relaxing in the hammock around the fire and listening to the owls in the evenings whilst cooking our dinner over the fire. Relaxing and enjoyable to spend most of the time outside.
20/09/2019Katherine
Wow! What can I say. This place is amazing. Lots of special touches, fresh bread, cider etc. We loved our stay here. It's such a unique space. We sat next to the fire in the evenings listening to the owls, and was even lucky enough to see one fly over. The best 40th birthday present ever!
13/09/2019Simone
Loved this location and really didn't want to leave. Joe was a lovely host who was really knowledgeable about the area. He also had a passion for the site and told us about how he'd built a lot of it himself, which was great. The facilities are excellent, can't fault them at all really. The tent itself is really cosy and the bathroom and kitchen have a perfect balance of being luxurious but also with a taste of the outdoors. It was really special sharing a little patch of the woods with the tawny owls!
28/08/2019Heather
Stay in Oak Apple Tree Tent was absolutely gorgeous! Welcome basket of bread, eggs and cider was lovely, beautiful kitchen with everything you'd need in and a lovely indoor seating area. Outside the fire pit area is stunning and all the equipment you need to cook on it is provided along with firewood, matches and fire starters which is included in the stay! Toilet and shower are very near to the tree tent which is great, lit by fairy lights! Tree tent itself would be suitable for all seasons and weather conditons, fire to use inside the tent which keeps its lovely and warm for the night, tent is insulated so doesn't need much to keep it cosy and the beds are very snug and comfy! We had a lovely stay and the photos do not do this place justice, it's a little hidden gem with lots of cute villages close by and plenty to do! Mostly great to enjoy the beautiful little space created around the tree tent in the middle of the woods! Definitely a luxery stay.
15/08/2019Jessica
Perfect little break away from it all! We had everything we needed for a couple of nights
06/08/2019Anne-marie
What can I say? Perfect from beginning to end! Emily and Joe have created a gorgeous hideaway and have thought of everything to make a stay here cosy, comfortable and relaxing. From the fully equipped kitchen to the funky bathroom and cosy beds, we had a brilliant time. Even the recipes, drawings and tips they encourage in their visitor book are brilliant! We'll definitely be back. Thanks Emily and Joe xx

We had a wonderful stay at Oak Apple Tree Tent. The location is idyllic and so peaceful. Our host Joe was very welcoming. There has been so much care and attention put into the tree tent. We would thoroughly recommend!
19/07/2019Helen
It was absolutely everything we hoped it would be and more. Perfect.
14/07/2019Ana
We could not have enjoyed this experience more! Everything about the stay was great. The accommodation was unusual and fun. Whilst the bed was a little short for my boyfriend that didn't ruin the experience in any way. The location was beautiful and it was so great to get away from our busy lives for a couple of days. We were totally secluded and very close to nature which was probably the most enjoyable part of it. I could go on forever but the stay can be summed up with one word - perfect!

5 star glamping, fully equipped indoor kitchen and great outdoor area for open fire cooking with all logs provided, separate cabin with toilet and hot shower and lovely fluffy towels. We felt really spoilt! Lovely touches, fresh coffee, welcome bottles of cider and bread, eggs and milk and Neals Yard toiletries. Best of all is the tree tent suspended between trees and accessed by a deck from the lower area giving great views. Tent fully insulated and very cosy with the log burner, slept like a log 2 nights running. Pizza oven well worth hiring, it was easy to use and great fun eating pizza round the log fire before toasting marshmallows. Emily and Joe are great hosts. We will be back Jane and Alex

After a very friendly welcome from Emily and Joe ( and their menagerie of sheep, chickens and dogs) we settled into the very spacious and private tree camp with the most beautiful views over the Welsh countryside. Everything has been thought of to give guests a special stay, from the welcome bread and cider to the locally made lambs wool bedding and blankets. There is plenty of space to lounge either around the firepit, on the wooden deck, or if the British weather is a bit hit and miss like it was for our stay, in the cosy cabin. There is plenty of lighting , however not so much as to spoil the views of the night sky (when the clouds did part!) After a short drive to a friendly local pub (The Lion Inn) we came back and lit the wood burner in the cosy tree tent , ready for when we retired to bed. In the meantime, we sat with a glass of wine around the firepit, listening and watching the local wildlife and rambling sheep in the next field. When we were ready for bed, the tree tent was lovely and warm and stayed that way all night thanks to the wood burner and blankets. The view through the windows and up through the sky light of the night sky was stunning and even the sound of rain in the middle of the night added to the relaxing feel of being in the tent. We slept like logs! Emily and Joe have created a private oasis of calm in the middle of beautiful countryside and their love and hard work really shines through. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Absolutely perfect! This place was so peaceful, the actual accommodation was thought out and had everything you needed. Owners were friendly, but also left us to it. If you want a place to switch off from the world, then this is definitely it.

The perfect secluded staycation, such a beautiful place and lovely hosts. You couldn’t ask for anymore. Lovely woods to explore down to the stream also.

We arrived a week ago in pretty back rain and wind but the tree tent, kitchen and site was very inviting. Joe checked we had everything we needed and was friendly and offered support if we needed anything.

We had a fantastic time at the Oak Apple Tree Tent. Joe was very welcoming and the place itself was stunning. We enjoyed relaxing by the fire and walking in the woods. The kitchen space was well stocked and they had left us bread, eggs and milk which was a lovely addition. Sleeping in the pod was very special, looking out the Perspex roof is amazing and it's very cosy with all the cushions and blankets.

we stayed for two nights in late october.

Wow! What can I say. This place is amazing. Lots of special touches, fresh bread, cider etc. We loved our stay here. It's such a unique space. We sat next to the fire in the evenings listening to the owls, and was even lucky enough to see one fly over. The best 40th birthday present ever!
